Founded in 2010, FutureHealth is an online health education and wellness program designed to prevent harmful behaviors through education. Our mission is to empower individuals to make positive lifestyle changes that lead to healthier outcomes. We believe that by providing ongoing education and promoting routine exercise, we can help reduce the risks of alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, anxiety, depression, diabetes, eating disorders, and personal safety concerns.
Throughout life, key decisions about healthy habits and personal wellness can shape your future, and FutureHealth is here to guide those choices. Our evidence-based program is developed in collaboration with medical professionals, local law enforcement, college administrators, students, and our in-house team. We also offer student outreach support through Buddy, our virtual student advocate, along with a variety of health promotion materials.
Providing college students with mental health support is crucial for several reasons:
College is a significant life transition, often marked by new environments, increased academic demands, and changing social dynamics. These changes can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and overwhelm, which mental health support can help address.
Mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, and burnout, can negatively impact a student's ability to focus, complete assignments, and perform well in exams. By addressing these challenges, students can improve their academic outcomes.
College is a formative time where students learn to manage stress and develop coping skills for adulthood. Mental health support helps students adopt healthy coping mechanisms, preventing more severe issues later in life.
Early intervention can prevent mental health challenges from escalating into crisis situations like suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, or self-harm, which are increasingly prevalent among college students.
Offering mental health services within a college setting normalizes seeking help and reduces the stigma surrounding mental health, encouraging more students to take care of their emotional well-being.
By addressing mental health issues during college, students are better equipped to maintain their emotional well-being as they transition into their careers and adult lives.
Providing mental health resources creates a more inclusive, supportive campus culture, where students feel they can thrive personally, socially, and academically.
Addressing mental health is essential for fostering student success and well-being both during and after college.
